Seasons of Blithewood Garden
for brass quartet, four rainsticks, and fixed media
Materials
Seasons of Blithewood Garden is a five-minute work for brass quartet, four rainsticks, and fixed media, awarded First Prize in the Blithewood Composition Competition at Bard College. The piece takes the garden as its tuning fork — the brass writing sits inside a continuous bed of field recording and rainstick texture, so that the ensemble seems less to play within a room than to occupy a particular outdoor weather. The planned premiere was lost to the COVID-19 pandemic; the piece has never been performed live, and exists only as a MIDI realization.
