Materials
Ouroboros is an eight-minute work for orator and percussion trio on mental health, otherness, and the demands contemporary society makes of individuals — the first chamber piece in which I appear as performer. Inspired by Mikel Rouse’s Dennis Cleveland, I take the lead role within the ensemble, drawing the other performers’ inner tension toward a cathartic resolution built around a quotation from Charles Ives’s General William Booth Enters into Heaven.
The work was written for the Sō Percussion Summer Institute and assembles its language from self-written text, notated material, and improvisation games. Video by Four/Ten Media.
